Australia have strengthened their position at the end of the first day’s play of the pink-ball day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval, with the top batsmen scoring useful runs after a devastating spell from fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India’s first innings ended at 180 runs. By the end of the game, Australia had scored 85 runs for one wicket and was still 94 runs behind India’s score. At the time of stump, Labuschagne was playing on 20 runs and McSweeney was playing on 38 runs and a partnership of 62 runs had been registered between them. Opener Khawaja became the victim of Bumrah after scoring 13 runs.

Rishabh Pant scored 21 runs and Nitish Kumar scored 42 runs in 54 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes and Ashwin scored 22 runs in 22 balls. Starc lost six wickets for 48 runs, Cummins lost two wickets for 41 runs and Boland lost two wickets for 54 runs.
Australian players paid tribute to Phillip Hughes and Ian Redpath by wearing black armbands
Adelaide: Australian players wore black armbands on the first day of the pink-ball Test against India on Friday in a tribute to former cricketers Phillip Hughes and Ian Redpath. Phillip Hughes died untimely after being hit on the head by a ball in a Sheffield Shield match in 2014. Redpath died earlier this month. The Australian Cricket Board decided to pay tribute to Hughes on his 10th death anniversary during the day-night Test. A short film on his life was shown before the match. Players also wore black armbands during the Sheffield Shield match last week.
Mitchell Starc took more than five wickets in the day-night test for the fourth time with an excellent spell in the test.

For the first time, Starc has taken five or more wickets in a Test against India. Starc has achieved this feat for the fourth time in the day-night test. No bowler in the world has been able to take five plus wickets more than twice in a day-night test. India were all out for 180 runs in the first innings and this is also the lowest score in the first innings against Australia in Adelaide.
