Himachal Pradesh Mandi Protest: A rally has been organized by various Hindu organizations in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, to protest against the construction of an illegal mosque. The protesters proceeded from Sakodi Chowk in Mandi town, where the police used water cannon to disperse the crowd. Police had made tight security arrangements at Sakodi Chowk.
Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apurv Devgan said that action will be taken against illegal construction and the mosque will be sealed.
Chief Minister spoke on the mosque dispute
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, “Illegal construction has been reported in Mandi, a committee will be formed on this mosque dispute, it is a peace-loving state, where all religions are respected.” Keeping in mind that no religion or caste should be hurt, the government will take action according to the law. Illegal construction is not acceptable. It further said that the Assembly should form a committee on street vendors, where local disputes will be resolved. Action will be taken keeping in mind the law in the case of Shimla mosque as well.
A similar view is seen in Shimla too
Locals protested against illegal construction in the mosque premises in Sanjoli area of Shimla. There was a scuffle with the police. The protesters marched towards the mosque and raised slogans like 'Himachal laana hai, Devbhoomi ko bachana hai', 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. When Paul tried to stop them by putting up barricades, they clashed with the police. Later the crowd was dispersed with the help of water cannon and lathicharge.
