Nahid Islam and Muhammad Yunus: Sheikh Hasina Wajed had to resign from the post of Prime Minister due to the violent student movement in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Army said, “We will soon form an interim government but it is not yet clear who will be its head.” A day after the entire incident, the leaders of 'Students Against Discrimination', who led the anti-government protest, said on Tuesday that we have met Nobel Prize winner Dr. We want to make Mohammad Yunus the President of the interim government of the country.
Nahid Islam
Nahid Islam, one of the main coordinators of the movement, said in a video shared on social media this morning that he has already spoken to Yunus (84) and is ready to take on this important responsibility to save Bangladesh. Nahid said that it has been decided that an interim government will be formed in which internationally renowned Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus will be the chief advisor. He has wide acceptance.
Nahid is seen with two other colleagues in the video. Nahid said that the names of other members of the interim government will be announced soon. The group had earlier taken 24 hours to announce the outline of the interim administration, but had to announce the name due to the chaotic situation. Nahid urged the President to take immediate steps to form an interim government under the leadership of Yunus. Yunus' experiment in banking facilities for the poor made Bangladesh known as a hub of microcredit.
According to various media reports, at least 119 people have been killed in the last two days of violence in Bangladesh. Regarding the large-scale violence, Nahid said that this violence is being done by expelled fascists and their allies to thwart the revolution. He said, “There is chaos in the country and people's lives are in danger, so we request the President to take immediate and effective steps to restore law and order and freedom-seeking students will also take to the streets to assist the law enforcement forces.”
Nahid made it clear that no government other than the one proposed by the students would be accepted. As we have said, no military government or a government supported by the military or a government of fascists will be accepted.
Muhammad Yunus
Yunus is currently out of the country but he welcomed Hasina's ouster and described the development as the country's second liberation. Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his campaign to eradicate poverty through the Grameen Bank. His method has been adopted in different continents.
Yunus and Hasina's government have long been at odds for unclear reasons. After Hussein came to power in 2008, authorities launched several investigations against Yunus. Bangladeshi authorities began a review of the activities of the statutory Grameen Bank in 2011 and removed Yunus from his post as its founding managing director on charges of violating government retirement rules.
Yunus faces dozens of charges. In January, a court sentenced Yunus to six months in prison for violating labor laws.
