IC 814 Kandahar Hijack Controversy: After a huge uproar over the name of the latest web series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack', OTT platform Netflix has finally agreed to change the objectionable content of the show. There is a controversy over the names of terrorists Bhola and Shankar in this series. After a huge protest over the name in the series, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday issued a summons to the content head of Netflix India and asked him to appear and give clarification. Today Netflix head Monica Shergill appeared before the government.

This controversy was discussed in a meeting between senior officials of the ministry and Monica, the head of Netflix India. Finally, Netflix told the central government that they are ready to change the objectionable part of the web series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. Apart from this, it was also assured that whatever films or web series will be released on Netflix in future, they will be prepared keeping in mind the sentiments of the people of the country.

Why is there a commotion?

'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack', released on 29 August, is directed by Anubhav Sinha. This series has a total of 6 episodes which are based on the Kandahar plane hijacking incident of a plane coming from Nepal to India in 1999. There is a controversy over the names of two hijackers in this series. The plane was hijacked by five hijackers. Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief are the same code names that these terrorists had during the hijacking. People are criticizing Netflix for trying to hurt their own sentiments and are opposing the presentation of the real names of these terrorists.

The terrorists were Muslims and their real names were Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar Syed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim and Shakir. After the controversy, the government summoned the Netflix chief and now the OTT platform is ready for change.

PIL in court for ban:

The anger of the users against Netflix is ​​at its peak. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court against the series, demanding a ban on 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack'. The petition alleges that the real identity of the terrorists involved in the hijacking has been distorted.
