After his first visit to India, Muizzu agrees to improve bilateral ties

Mabe: After the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu hosted President Muizzu and President Muizzu was seated next to him. After this, the President went to meet the President of India Draupadi Murmu on her invitation. Meanwhile, a long conversation took place between the two presidents in which President Muizzu agreed to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Giving this information in a statement issued by the Maldives Foreign Ministry, it was said that both the presidents agreed to strengthen India-Maldives relations and increase cooperation between the two countries. President Muizzu in India also accepted that suggestion of the President.

Meanwhile, Indian President Draupadi Murmu congratulated the Muizzu government and the people of Maldives.

Relations between the two countries were very good ever since Britain withdrew its sovereignty over the Maldives and declared it independent, until Muizzu's government came to power. Traditionally, the President of Maldives used to visit India first after his election. But Muizzu broke that tradition by first visiting China and then Turkey. This is his first visit to India.

Earlier his relations with India were very good, but China played havoc with it, Muizzu first went to China before visiting India, then to Turkey. He asked the Indian Army contingent to leave Maldives just before the swearing-in ceremony. But trouble arose when the drones and helicopters donated by India went into repair work and finally engineers and employees of Hindustan Aeronautics had to be called. So looking at the basic situation, it is now expected that the attitude of Maldives will lean towards India, the island nation located in the center of the Indian Ocean is of strategic importance.
