Mandi, August 21 (HS). Dev Barnag, the deity of Sanor Ghati, who used to walk with the palanquin of the royal deity Madhorai in the princely era Mandi Shivratri procession, reached Mandi after eighty years on Wednesday. After paying his obeisance at the court of the royal deity Madhorai, the deity bowed his head in front of the royal deity. Earlier, Dev Barnag reached Mandi city with silver rods, sun fans and umbrellas from his storehouse Jwalapur along with hundreds of Devlu and Bajantris, dancing to the combined sounds of drums, nagadas, karnal, ransinghs and shehnai. It felt as if Madhorai's procession had been taken out in Mandi city once again.

The Devlu were dancing in front of the chariot of the deity and moving towards the temple of Rajdevta Madhorai. During this time, a crowd of people gathered on both sides of the road in the market, due to which the way of vehicles passing through the market was also blocked for some time. After eighty years, the chariot of Dev Barnag entered the courtyard of Rajdevta Madhorai temple.

During this, amidst a huge crowd of people, the officials of Sarv Devata Seva Samiti welcomed the deity under the leadership of President Shivpal Sharma. Dev Barnag bowed his head half-bent in front of Rajdevata as per tradition. This scene was very emotional. Dev Barnag, who used to play a major role in Mandi Shivratri fairs during the princely era, used to walk with Madhorai's palanquin along with Dev Chandehiya. But due to the Dhur dispute, both the deities no longer participate in Mandi Shivratri fairs. On the historic day of 21 August, Dev Barnag came to Mandi city after eighty years. The deity has come to Mandi's Sanyahard ward on a personal invitation. During this, he also reached the court of Rajdevata where he was welcomed by the deity committee, and a gift was also given to the deity on behalf of Madhorai.

Former MLA Jawahar Thakur, the main caretaker of Dev Barnag, said that this is the first time after independence that the deity has come to Mandi city on a personal invitation of a devotee. He said that the role of Dev Barnag was very important in Mandi Shivratri. But due to the Dhur dispute, during the princely era itself, the deity refused to participate in Shivratri fairs. Today, after eighty years, the deity has come to Mandi city.

Dev Barnaga had reached Delhi to participate in Republic Day:

Dev Barnag reached Delhi on his chariot after travelling on foot for several days to participate in the Republic Day parade on the invitation of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. After this, he returned from Delhi on foot with his Devlus. This was in the year 1954, in those days there were no facilities of vehicles for transportation like today. Secondly, the chariot of the deity did not travel by car.
