Ahmedabad, air quality index: Due to bursting of firecrackers and other reasons during Diwali, the level of air pollution in some areas has increased by 2 times to 5 times.

Especially the air quality index in Rakhiyal area was 548.10 and the air quality index in Navrangpura was 417. That means the air of this area was the most polluted. This pollution was 3 times more than drinking pollution. If the air pollution count exceeds 200, people's health may be harmed. Financial assistance is provided by the Central Government to prevent increasing air pollution in the city.

The municipality has so far spent more than Rs 370 crore to prevent air pollution in the city. The result was that the pollution level of PM 10 particles in the air, which used to be more than 200, has now come down to an average of 100. Pollution was very high during the two days of Diwali. It is noteworthy that when pollution increases in such a large amount, people may suffer from lung problems. Especially the elderly and children have difficulty in breathing. This pollution is more harmful for patients with lung and respiratory diseases, including asthma.

It is noteworthy that when pollution increases in the city, the municipality installs fogging machines to immediately settle the particles present in the air on the ground. This makes purifying the air a little easier.

There are two methods used to measure the amount of particulate matter in the air, PM 10 and PM 2.5 being the two important ones. PM 10 indicates the presence of large particles in the air. It measures the amount of particles in the air within a certain diameter. The concentration of PM 10 should be 100 micro grams per cubic meter. If it is more than this, the amount of pollution is considered high. The greater the amount of PM, the greater the pollution in the air.
