Mahabharata: The path to heaven and hell is through our deeds. From childhood till now we have been taught that if we do good deeds, we will go to heaven and if we do bad deeds, the doors of hell will open for us. This simple concept motivates us to do good and bad deeds from the beginning till the end.
We all have read, seen or heard Mahabharata and also know that Pandavas were on the side of Dharma and Kauravas were evil, but do you know that when Yudhishthira reached heaven, he killed the brothers Duryodhan, Dushasan and Shakuni who sat in heaven and Draupadi in hell.
There is a great story of Mahabharata behind this which not many people know about
After all why did Shakuni reach heaven?
There is a story from the Mahabharata behind this. Actually, Shakuni never committed any sin for himself. He was just taking revenge for the crime committed against his family. Gandhari was considered the most beautiful princess of undivided India in her time and when she was born, the pundits predicted that her husband would have a short life. This is why Gandhari's father Maharaj Subala married Gandhari to a goat to reduce the dosha and killed the goat.
Shakuni loved Gandhari very much and when he came to know that Gandhari was marrying Dhritarashtra, who was blind by birth, to protect the kingdom, he became very angry. Dhritarashtra did not even get the throne. After this, Bhishma Pitamah came to know about the marriage of Gandhari and the goat. He was very angry that the daughter-in-law of the royal family had become a widow.
So he imprisoned Maharaja Subala and his entire family. At that time each person was given one grain of grain to eat. Maharaja Subala and his family gave their grain to Shakuni so that he could avenge his death. One by one they all died in front of Shakuni and Shakuni made magical dice from the bones of his father, who always believed in him.
Shakuni always lived for his family, so even after committing sins, he got heaven for some time. As far as the Pandavas are concerned, they definitely chose the path of Dharma, but everyone did something wrong. Religious guru Sadhguru has told about this story. He has told this story of Mahabharata absolutely correctly.
Reason for Pandavas going to hell
After winning the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas started ruling Hastinapur. Yudhishthira was a religious king and ruled for 36 years. After this, he handed over his kingdom to Uttara and Abhimanyu's son Parikshit and went to heaven. On the way, he saw many things and when he reached the mountain, Draupadi fell down and died first. On this, Arjun, Bhima, Nakul and Sahadev looked back, but Yudhishthira did not look. When the brother asked the question, Yudhishthira said that Draupadi considered all five of us as her husbands, but she loved Arjun the most. In such a situation, he did not follow his religion.
Later Nakul also fell down and died. To this Yudhishthira said that he was very proud of his looks. He considered himself the most handsome man in the world. This pride was his sin. After walking some further, Sahadeva also fell down and died. When Arjuna asked Yudhishthira why this happened, he replied that he was proud that he was the most intelligent and everything was going against him, yet he did not use his intelligence, did not say anything against the chaos and did not try to stop it. This is why Sahadeva could not move forward.
As we moved a little further, the same thing happened with Bhima. Arjun asked that Bhima was not proud, then why did this happen to him? On this Yudhishthira said that Bhima was killed because of his greed. Bhima could not stop himself on seeing food. Moreover, he used to take pleasure in the pain of others. If something bad happens to the Kauravas, he himself will be happy. That is why Bhima could not go further.
Eventually Arjuna fell and there was no one to question him. Then Yudhishthira said that Arjuna considered himself the best archer in the world. He was good at his art, but not the best. Not only this, he was always afraid of what would happen to him if someone better than him came. This fear in his mind did not allow him to move forward.
Finally when Yudhishthira reached the top of Mount Meru (Sumeru), Indra sent his vehicle to fetch him. If a person reaches the top of this mountain with perfect knowledge, he attains heaven in his physical body. As Yudhishthira started to mount Indra's vehicle, he noticed that a dog from Hastinapur was chasing him.
Indra refused to go without him and said that this cannot be done. Then Yudhishthira said that if he has come after such a long journey then we do not have to decide whether he will go further or not. He has proved himself.
In such a situation, Indra had to take Yudhishthira to heaven. After reaching heaven, Yudhishthira saw Duryodhan, Shakuni and Dushasan there. Yudhishthira got very angry and asked Indra what these people were doing here. Sage Narad explained that every person who dies fighting bravely on the battlefield gets rest here.
Yudhishthira saw a lot in the fire of hell and saw his brother and wife suffering. Then he asked why this injustice? I also want to stay here with my family and not go to heaven. Then Indra and other gods appeared and said that you gave up everything and made yourself so tough that even after the death of your family you did not look back, but as soon as you came to heaven, you could not erase the anger within you. Here due to anger you could not see the Kauravas in heaven. This is your sin.
Then Yudhishthira sat there and thought about his deeds and removed hatred from his mind. Only then he could go to heaven. Actually the Kauravas were in heaven for a few moments and the Pandavas were in hell for a few moments. Indra's plan was to tell Yudhishthira about knowledge.
