Jhajjar. Monday brought a double blow for Jhajjar district. Life remained miserable throughout the day due to the scorching heat of 43 degrees Celsius and by the evening a sudden dust storm engulfed the entire district. This seasonal disturbance not only troubled the common people, but also increased the concern of farmers and businessmen regarding lakhs of quintals of wheat kept in the open sky in the markets.
The sun kept burning throughout the day, there was silence in the markets
On Monday, the maximum temperature of the district was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 27 degrees Celsius. There was silence in the markets and streets in the afternoon due to hot winds and scorching sun. People remained hidden in their homes and came out only for essential work.
Storm came at 7:30, electricity supply cut off
Suddenly a dust storm hit around 7:30 in the evening. The wind speed was recorded at about 28 kilometers per hour. In view of the danger of falling trees and breaking wires, power supply was stopped as a precautionary measure in many parts of the city and district. Executive Engineer Pradeep Kumar said that in such weather it becomes necessary to cut electricity to avoid any accident. Light drizzle also occurred at some places in the rural areas, due to which the temperature dropped slightly and people got some relief from the heat.
Millions of quintals of wheat are in danger of getting wet.
This change in weather has given sleepless nights to farmers and commission agents. At present, a large quantity of wheat is kept under the open sky in the mandis and warehouses of the district. The commission agents have tried to cover a lot of wheat with tarpaulins, but the tarpaulins are blowing away in the strong storm. If it rains in the coming days, the risk of millions of quintals of wheat getting wet will increase and farmers may have to suffer huge financial losses.
Departments need to be alert
In view of this sudden change in weather, procurement agencies and concerned departments need to be immediately alert. If proper arrangements for storage and protection of wheat are not made in time, then this season can spoil the hard work of the farmers.
