What the Afghanistan team did in the T20 World Cup 2024 is nothing less than a miracle. Miracle because no one expected that Rashid Khan's team would reach so far in the tournament. Afghanistan has done this feat despite being in the group of a strong team like Australia. Afghanistan not only defeated Australia but also knocked them out of the tournament.
Australia out of World Cup
Due to Afghanistan getting a ticket to the semi-finals, Australia had to return home from the Super-8 of the tournament. The success of the Afghanistan team is being celebrated at home as if Holi is being celebrated somewhere in India.
The people of Afghanistan celebrated
Cricket fans have come out on the streets after the team reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time in Afghanistan. A huge crowd of fans has gathered to celebrate the team's success. Colors are flying. Gulal is flying. Every color is mixed in the air of Afghanistan. It is natural for this to happen because the date of June 25 is written as a golden page in the book of Afghanistan cricket. A bigger and unique success story than this has not been written for Afghanistan yet.
The roads of Afghanistan are jammed
From the stadium to the streets, people were seen celebrating Afghanistan's victory. The cricketers of the Afghan team also celebrated their success with great enthusiasm. The sight of Afghanistan players coming to the field with Bangladesh's last wicket was like watching Team India after winning the first T20 World Cup title in 2007.
The players could not hold back their tears
Getting a ticket to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 was also an emotional moment for the Afghanistan players. After the team's victory, tournament opener and top scorer Rahmanullah Gurbaz burst into tears. Pictures of him crying were captured by a field camera.
Afghanistan's celebration reminded us of Team India
On one hand there were Gurbaz's tears and on the other hand there was a festive atmosphere on the field, seeing which the pictures of Team India's celebration after winning the 2011 World Cup started repeating. Afghanistan players were seen carrying their captain Rashid Khan and coach Jonathan Trott on their shoulders, just like in 2011, Indian players carried Sachin Tendulkar and Gary Kirsten around the field.
On the other hand, Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki also congratulated the Captain on video call.
