Afghanistan in semi-finals, Australia out of World Cup

The Afghanistan team has created history in the T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan has entered the semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs. Afghanistan has become the second team from Group-1 to reach the semi-finals along with India. This victory of Afghanistan has shown Australia the way out of the tournament.

This match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan was very exciting. Speculations about victory and defeat continued till the last minute of the match. Afghanistan will face South Africa in the semi-finals. The second semi-final will be played between India and England.

Afghanistan batted first

Afghanistan batted first in the match. However, the team failed to score big. Due to slow partnership, Afghanistan scored 115 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran once again gave a good start to Afghanistan. Both of them shared a 59-run partnership in 64 balls for the first wicket. After this, captain Rashid Khan played a captaincy innings for the team. In the final, he took the team's score to 115 runs by hitting 3 sixes. Along with this, Bangladesh bowlers kept the Afghanistan batsmen tied down. Bangladesh's Rishad Hussain took 3 wickets.

Bangladesh all out for 105 runs

Afghanistan's bowlers defended this small target. The team's bowlers bowled out Bangladesh for 105 runs in 17.5 overs. The match was shortened by 1 over due to rain. Bangladesh had to score 114 runs in 19 overs as per Duckworth Lewis rule to win. Bangladesh's opening batsman Liton Das remained unbeaten after scoring 54 runs in 49 balls. On the other hand, Bangladesh kept losing wickets continuously. Only 3 batsmen of the team could touch the double digit mark.

Talking about Afghanistan's bowlers, Naveen Ul Haq took 4 wickets for 26 runs in 3.5 overs. While Rashid Khan took 4 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Fazal Haq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib got 1-1 wickets respectively. Noor Ahmed was not successful in taking wickets but played an important role in the victory by giving only 13 runs in 4 overs.
