Panchayat elections are being held in Punjab on 15 October. Regarding this election, Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni, President of the District Bar Association, has written a letter to the Election Commission complaining about the lack of bids for the Sarpanch election. On this occasion, while talking to the journalists, he said that the Sarpanch elections are being held at Dera Baba Nanak and other places. Cases of taking bribe of Rs 2 crore have come to light, which are going viral.
Dharani said that if sarpanches are being bought with money in this way, then democracy has been murdered and those who are eligible for the post of sarpanch will not get a chance in future, because people can also become sarpanches with money.
Dharani said that he has written a letter to the Election Commission urging it to pay attention to this aspect so that eligible candidates can contest the elections and democracy can be saved. Dharani said that it would be good if action is taken against him today, otherwise MLAs and MPs will be elected in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections by bidding like this.
