Kanpur, 06 November (HS). There is good news for students dreaming of admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. Now apart from JEE Advanced, students will also be able to take admission through Olympiad. In the upcoming session, Olympiad qualified students will get a chance to take admission in B.Tech and BS programs.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has announced a new admission route for its B.Tech and BS programs based on performance in international Olympiads. The initiative, starting from the academic year 2025-26, aims to benefit exceptionally talented students who excel in highly competitive international Olympiads in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics.

Under this programme, IIT Kanpur will offer reserved seats in five departments Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Economic Sciences and Mathematics and Statistics. Admission through this route will allow a limited number of seats per department exclusively for those students who have undergone rigorous preparation and training in the respective Olympiad camps. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for students who wish to pursue their passion in these fields at one of India's leading institutions, bypassing the traditional JEE (Advanced) route.

To be eligible for this route, candidates must be of the same age as JEE (Advanced) candidates and must have appeared for the first time in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in the year of admission or earlier, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Have subjects. Candidates must have attended the relevant Olympiad training camp in the subject for which they are applying. Those who have previously taken admission in IIT through JoSAA or whose IIT admission has been canceled are not eligible.

The selection process involves two stages. Initially, each department will review the applicants based on the Olympiad ranking and shortlist the candidates accordingly. These candidates will then appear in the written examination, which is mandatory, and also interview, if necessary. At the institute level, a selection committee led by the Dean of Academic Affairs will consolidate the recommendations of each department to ensure that the admission process is streamlined, so that all available seats in each department are filled without any overlap.

Pro. Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Kanpur said that our Olympiad-based admission initiative is designed to provide opportunities to talented students who have excelled in international competitions. We are creating a diverse educational environment rich in innovation and critical thinking. Our goal is to connect our academic community with individuals who bring unique perspectives and exceptional analytical skills. Through this initiative, we aim to support and promote innovation in subjects that are essential for India's growth and global competitiveness.

The timeline for this new entry route will begin with applications invited in early March 2025. The application window will close at the end of March and departments will conduct their screening and examinations by May in the respective academic years. Selected candidates will be given offers to join the institute in June 2025, providing applicants with a streamlined timeline that will provide adequate preparation and a clear pathway to admission.

Through this alternative entry route, IIT Kanpur is reserving seats in select departments for young innovators with exceptional analytical skills, making it one of the few institutes in India that directly recruits talent from prestigious global Olympiad platforms. Does.
