Bahraich, 14 October (HIST). The situation remains tense in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh after communal violence on Sunday over idol immersion. The family members of the youth killed in the violence and the angry villagers are adamant on demanding the arrest of the accused. Under the guise of this, anarchist elements are carrying out incidents of arson and sabotage. However, internet service has been suspended in the riot-affected areas. Additional police forces have been called from nearby districts. PAC is also deployed in the area. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash himself is leading the charge. The MLA and the administration are busy convincing the family members for the last rites. Police officers along with the force are on patrol in the affected areas.
The Durga idol was being taken for immersion in Mahsi area in Maharajganj on Sunday evening. People were singing no to the tune of the DJ. During this time, when people of a particular community asked to stop the singing, an altercation broke out between the people of both the communities. Within no time fighting, stone pelting and firing started. In this firing, a young man Ram Gopal Mishra died and many people were injured. After this incident, people became more angry and the chaos increased. The rebels started setting government property, shops, houses and vehicles on fire. Seeing the increasing ruckus, Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla informed the higher officials and called for additional forces from the surrounding districts. The administration and police somehow controlled the situation.
When Ram Gopal's body was taken to his home after the Panchnama, the family refused to cremate the body, demanding the arrest of the accused. After this once again the peaceful atmosphere became tense. People took to the streets with sticks. Whatever was in sight, they were setting it on fire. After taking cognizance of the incident, on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Secretary (Home) Sanjeev Gupta and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash reached Bahraich district on Monday. He took charge. Dispelled the miscreants. The MLA and administration people assured that the culprits of Ram Gopal will not be spared but the family members are not agreeing to cremate the body. Even after more than 15 hours have passed since the incident, the fire of violence that broke out in Bahraich has still not been extinguished. Police and administration officials are busy convincing the family members.
Amitabh Yash was seen chasing the miscreants with a pistol
STF chief Amitabh Yash along with the police force was seen chasing the miscreants on the streets of Bahraich with a pistol in his hand. Seeing the pistol in the hand of the STF Chief, the miscreants surrendered and ran ahead. The video of this action of Amitabh Yash is also going viral on social media. In this, he is seen holding a pistol in one hand and glasses in the other hand.
CM directs officers to deal strictly
Earlier in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with senior officials regarding the Bahraich violence, in which he ordered to deal strictly with the miscreants. He asked the officials to deal strictly with those spreading rumors regarding the uproar. Chief Minister Yogi said that the accused should be arrested as soon as possible.
30 people in custody so far: Superintendent of Police
The Superintendent of Police said that on Sunday, the Durga idol was being taken from the Muslim area of Maharajganj area of Mahsi for immersion. During that time both the parties came face to face regarding some issue. In this a youth from the Hindu side died. As tension arose after the incident, idol immersion was stopped at various places. Under the cover of this, anarchist elements created a disturbance. The police took the situation under control and got the idol immersed. Efforts are being made to provide assurance to the family members of the deceased and conduct the last rites. A large number of police forces, PAC and RAF have been deployed in the area. 30 people have been detained.
