Ranchi, 04 December (HS). Bharatiya Janata Party State President Babulal Marandi has described the incident of torturing a tribal woman on witchcraft charges in Ranchi as unfortunate and condemnable.

Marandi wrote in a post on his Ranchi Police should take legal action against the culprits in the related case and provide proper assistance to the victim tribal woman. Marandi has also urged the Chief Minister to direct the officials in this matter so that such incidents with women do not recur again.

It is noteworthy that Mangri Oraon, a tribal woman from Chutiyon village of Chanho block, 50 kilometers away from Ranchi, is being tortured for the last four months by calling her a witch. Due to this, Mangri’s entire family is in panic. The victim has said that the entire village has rallied behind her. The house has been demolished. Water pipelines and electricity connections have also been cut. After this she went to her maternal home in Patratu Tetar Toli with her family. After staying there for a month, when she returned to the village to harvest paddy, the villagers started harassing her again. After this Mangri lodged an FIR in Narkopi police station. When Narkopi police reached the village to solve the matter, they had to return due to opposition from the villagers. Mangri said that three-four people had died in the village, due to which the villagers felt that this was happening due to witchcraft.
