Action intensified against Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in Delhi, many arrested

Delhi Police has intensified action against Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in the capital. During a verification drive conducted in the South-West district on Saturday, a Bangladeshi national who was living without valid documents for the last three years was arrested.

Identification and arrest of illegal immigrants

Police said that the arrested citizen has been identified as Mohammad Sahidul Islam. He was detained by the team of Palam Village Police Station. During preliminary investigation, Sahidul was unable to produce valid documents and admitted to being in India illegally. Police also recovered photocopies of some Bangladesh documents from him.

Later, he was handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) from where he will be deported to Bangladesh after completing the legal process.

This campaign is being run on the instructions of Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena to identify illegal immigrants in Delhi. Special Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Madhup Tiwari said that this verification campaign has been conducted with the aim of identifying illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and sending them to their native country.

Action taken in previous cases also

Earlier, on Thursday, the team of Safdarjung Enclave Police Station arrested two illegal Bangladeshi citizens living in Delhi since 2012. They were identified as 54-year-old Liaqat and his 39-year-old wife Nasreen. Both of them were also deported to Bangladesh through FRRO.

Two more arrests in South West district

Two other illegal immigrants were also caught in separate operations during the operation. One of them is Lovely Khatoon Islam, who is a resident of Shankarpur, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. She was living illegally in Delhi for the last four years.

The second arrest was made by Vasant Kunj South police station. The person arrested from here was identified as Mohammad Bablu, a resident of Demra village in Dhaka. He was also sent to Bangladesh through FRRO.

Increased emphasis on identification of illegal immigrants

This campaign of Delhi Police is being run to control the increasing number of illegal immigrants in the capital. Under the verification campaign, documents of citizens are being checked door-to-door. Those who do not have valid documents are being detained and deported after investigation.
