New Delhi, 03 December (HS). ‘Digital Arrest’, the ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’ under the Union Home Ministry, has so far blocked 1700 Scriber IDs and 59 thousand WhatsApp accounts to deal with cyber crime related frauds. Apart from this, till November 15, 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1.32 lakh IMEI mobile IDs have been blocked.
Union Minister of State for Home Bundi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha about the efforts being made by the Home Ministry to deal with cyber crimes. In a written reply to a question, he said that the Central Government has taken several concrete steps to strengthen the mechanism to deal with cyber crimes.
A National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has been created, in which the general public can share information about all types of cyber crimes. He said that for this, the Home Ministry has established ‘National Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’, which has been specially created to coordinate and comprehensively take action against cyber crimes within the country.
The minister informed that the ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System’ was prepared in 2021. Through the efforts of this mechanism, Rs 3,431 crore has been saved so far for 9.94 lakh complainants. The government is running a toll free helpline 1930, which provides assistance in filing complaints online.
The Home Ministry is also running a massive awareness campaign to combat cyber crimes. The central government asked telecom service providers to stop international fake calls in which Indian mobile numbers appear.
‘Cyber Fraud Mission Centre’ has also been prepared. Its mandate is to take prompt action and coordination with large banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT intermediaries and state and union territory law enforcement agencies.
