Accused sentenced to five years imprisonment in liquor smuggling case | News India

Bhagalpur, 28 September (HS). The court has sentenced the accused Dilip Singh, arrested in liquor smuggling case by the police on June 26, 2023 at Tetri Chowk in Navgachia, to 5 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In the case registered in Navgachia police station under Section 30 (A) of Bihar Prohibition Products Act 2016, Special Judge (Product-2) Rajesh Kumar, while completing the hearing of the said case, had found the accused Dilip Singh guilty. While completing the hearing on the point of punishment, accused Dilip Singh has been sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Also, for not paying the fine amount, he has been sentenced to additional imprisonment of 3 months.

Special Public Prosecutor of the Excise Court, Bhola Kumar Mandal said that on June 26, 2023, information was received from the Prohibition Department, Bihar Patna that a truck was carrying a huge consignment of liquor from Bhagalpur towards Navgachia. To verify the information and take necessary action, Navgachia police station informed the senior officer and reached Tetri Chowk and started checking the vehicles. In the same sequence, when he saw the truck coming, he signaled to stop, the driver of the vehicle pushed the truck forward and stopped it and as soon as the vehicle stopped, the driver got down and started running away, who was caught with the help of armed forces and on asking his name and address, he recognized himself as Dilip Singh, who is from Gopalganj district. Said to be the son of late Lakshmi Singh, resident of Rampur village under Mohammadpur police station area.

When asked about the goods loaded in the vehicle, no satisfactory answer was given. Subsequently, on suspicion, the vehicle was searched and a huge quantity of cartons of English liquor was found inside the vehicle, kept in a plastic sack covered with red soil and a sack of dry garbage. When the said liquor was taken out of the container and counted, a total of 4383 liters of foreign liquor was recovered. In this entire case, Special Public Prosecutor Bhola Kumar Mandal participated in the debate on behalf of the government. The Special Public Prosecutor's associate advocates were Rajendra Kumar, Ravi Ranjan Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma and Pintu Kumar Singh.
