Accused of raping minor niece sent to jail

Gopeshwar, 30 April (Hindustan Reporter). The Revenue Police has arrested a person and sent him to jail on charges of raping a minor niece. The accused was produced before the Special Sessions Judge, from where he was sent to jail for 14 days on judicial demand. The accused has been accused of rape by his niece.

According to the Revenue Police, a person in Tharali tehsil filed a complaint on April 28 that his 15-year-old daughter was taken home by her maternal uncle on April 21 on the pretext of religious ritual. The accused raped the minor by feeding him intoxicants.

Revenue Sub Inspector Robit Siddiqui said that on the complaint of family members, a case was registered under Section 376 IPC, 5/6 POCSO Act and medical examination of the victim was done. The accused was arrested and produced before the Special Sessions Judge, from where he was sent to jail on judicial remand for 14 days. He said that an application has been given to District Magistrate Chamoli to transfer the case to the regular police.
