Islamabad: The mastermind of several terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and the top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Abu Katal, has been killed in Pakistan. Abu Katal was considered the right hand of Tayyip chief Hafiz Saeed. Even the Pakistani army could not save them. On Saturday evening, unidentified gunmen killed a person on a public road in Pakistan’s Punjab province by firing 20 bullets. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Abu Katal, who was responsible for several terrorist attacks, including the attack on the bus of pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir, was killed by unknown assailants in Punjab near Pakistan’s Jhelum province on Saturday night. According to media reports, unknown assailants also killed the security guard of Katal.

According to sources, unknown assailants ambushed the convoy of terrorist Katal passing by Punjab University in Jhelum area and fired 20 bullets on Abu Katal. He died at the scene. Along with Katal, Taiba militants and Pakistani army personnel were also present there to protect him, but they could not save him. Lashkar-e-Taiba Senior Commander Zia-ur-Rahman alias Nadeem alias Abu Katal alias Katal Sindhi was considered the right hand of 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and the right hand of Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.

Meanwhile, there are also reports on social media that Hafiz Saeed was also with Abu Katal. He was seriously injured in this attack. He died after being shot on Sunday. According to some reports, Saeed was also shot by unknown assailants and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Several posts on social media in Pakistan claimed that Hafiz Saeed was also killed in this attack.

A leader of Imran Khan’s party PTI claimed on X that he had spoken to Hafiz Saeed’s son Talha Saeed. Talha Saeed claimed that his father was alive, but his voice seemed that something had happened.

Meanwhile, Katal was living in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and was carrying out terrorist activities in Poonch-Rajouri area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir. According to Indian officials, Abu Katal infiltrated the Jammu region in early 2000 and returned to Pakistan in 2005. He had a strong network of terrorist allies in Poonch and Rajouri. In the NIA investigation, Katal’s name was revealed in several terrorist incidents.

The central agency had registered a case against them in 2023 in connection with the attack on Hindu minorities in Dangri village of Rajouri. On 1 January 2023, terrorists opened indiscriminate firing in Dangri village, killing five people. The attackers also put an IED at the scene, in which the next day exploded and two more people were killed. Abu Katal is being described as the mastermind of the attack on the bus of devotees going to visit the Shivkhodi temple on 9 June 2024. Nine devotees were killed in this attack.
