In Hindu religion, Pradosh fast observed on Trayodashi date is considered extremely beneficial and liberating from sins. Today i.e. on 26th July 2026, Sunday, Pradosh fast of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month is being observed. Because it falls on Sunday, it is known as Ravi Pradosh Vrat or Bhanu Pradosh Vrat.

According to religious beliefs, during Pradosh period, Lord Shiva dances on Mount Kailash in a very happy posture and ends all the sorrows of his devotees. By observing Pradosh fast on Sunday, one gets special blessings from Mahadev as well as Sun God, due to which the seeker gets health, respect in the society, status and good health.

Pradosh Vrat 2026: Date and auspicious time of worship

According to the scriptures, the worship of Pradosh Vrat is only Pradosh Kaal (period at and just after sunset) It is done only in:

  • Ashadh Shukla Trayodashi date starts: July 26, 2026 at 01:58 pm

  • Trayodashi date ends: 27th July 2026 at 04:15 pm

  • Auspicious time of Pradosh Kaal Puja (26th July): Evening 07:16 pm to 09:21 pm

  • Total duration of puja: 2 hours 05 minutes

Importance of Ravi Pradosh fast

  1. Health and strength of Sun planet: By observing fast on Ravi Pradosh, the planet Sun gets strengthened in the horoscope of the person, which helps in getting relief from physical diseases.

  2. Confidence and success: This fast is considered especially fruitful for those who are feeling lack of respect and prestige in career or society.

  3. Wish fulfillment: On this day, during Pradosh period, by offering water to Shivling and worshiping it with rituals, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati fulfill all the wishes.

Simple worship method for Ravi Pradosh fast

  1. Resolution and bath: Wake up in the morning during Brahma Muhurta and take bath and wear white or red-yellow clean clothes. Take a pledge to fast while meditating on Lord Shiva and Sun God with water in your hand.

  2. Surya Arghya: Mix water, red sandalwood and red flowers in a copper pot and offer it to the Sun God.

  3. Pradosh Kaal Bath and Preparation: In the evening, just before Pradosh Kaal Muhurta, take bath again or wash hands and feet and wear clean clothes.

  4. Jalabhishek of Shivalinga: Sitting at the place of worship, offer Ganga water, milk and Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar) on Shivling.

  5. Material Offering: After this, apply ashes or sandalwood on Shivling and offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Shami Patra, Bhang, Akshat and white flowers with devotion.

  6. Story and Aarti: Read or listen to the story of Ravi Pradosh fast. Light incense sticks and chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and finally perform the aarti of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.

  7. Breaking of fast: Next day (27th July) in the morning, after bathing and meditating again, break the fast by taking satvik food.
