Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its candidates for all 70 seats for the Delhi Assembly elections. The party on Sunday announced the fourth list which has 38 candidates including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. One of these names is that now insulting Quran can become a big issue in Delhi elections. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which is preparing to contest elections on Muslim dominated seats, has cornered AAP and called it a slap on the face of Muslims. Controversy over which candidate
This entire controversy has arisen regarding AAP’s candidate on Mehrauli seat. The party has once again fielded its sitting MLA Naresh Yadav from this seat. Naresh Yadav has recently been found guilty of insulting the Quran. The court has sentenced him to 2 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11,000. Since then there was a demand to remove Naresh Yadav from AAP but the party decided to give him another chance. After which Asaduddin Owaisi’s party has got a big issue. With the help of which she has started trying to attract the Muslims of Delhi towards herself.
What is the matter of insulting the Quran?
In a historic verdict on November 30, a court in Punjab’s Malerkotla district sentenced Naresh Yadav to two years in jail. A fine of Rs 11 thousand has also been imposed on him. This case of insult of Quran is of 2016. Some pages of the Holy Quran were torn in Malerkotla. Police initially registered a case against Vijay, Gaurav and Kishore but later arrested AAP MLA Yadav in this case. Yadav was released by the lower court in March 2021. After which complainant Mohammad Ashraf filed an appeal against his release. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Parminder Singh Grewal on Friday convicted Yadav in this case and pronounced the verdict. Naresh has been booked under IPC sections 295A (criminal mischief intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting religion or religious belief), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 120B ( Was charged under criminal conspiracy.
AIMIM started making issue
After giving ticket to Naresh Yadav, AIMIM has made ‘insult of Quran’ a big issue. The party demonstrated in Mustafabad on Sunday evening. Owaisi’s party has started promoting it vigorously among Muslims. While sharing the video of the protest, AIMIM’s Delhi entry president Shoaib Jamai wrote, ‘Aam Aadmi Party gave ticket from Mehroli to a candidate who was convicted by the court for insulting Islam and hurting communal sentiments. In protest against this, AIMIM party workers in Delhi expressed their anger by slapping the statue of Arvind Kejriwal. Those Muslims who voted for Aam Aadmi Party were slapped on the cheek. AIMIM leaders and workers have also started raising this issue loudly on social media.

Most of the Muslim voters in Delhi have supported AAP in the last two assembly elections in Delhi. In both the elections, the party has won all those Muslim dominated seats.
