New Delhi. Today, 25 September 2026 (Friday) has special religious and spiritual significance in the Sanatan tradition. Today is the Chaturdashi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, which is being celebrated with devotion and gaiety across the country as the great festival of Anant Chaturdashi and Ganesh Visarjan. After sitting in every home and public pandals for 10 days, today Bappa will be given an emotional farewell with the wish of coming back soon next year. Along with this, today a Rakshasutra of 14 knots is worn by worshiping the ‘Infinite’ form of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, the sustainer of the universe.
An important astrological aspect of today’s day is that this great festival of immersion and worship is taking place under the shadow of Panchak. Panchak occurs during the Moon’s transit in Aquarius and Pisces. Today the Moon is transiting in Aquarius, due to which there is an effect of ‘Chor Panchak’.
According to the scriptures, traveling towards the south, roofing the house, collecting fuel/grass and weaving cots are considered prohibited during Panchak. However, Panchak does not have any inauspicious effect on the immersion and religious rituals of Lord Ganesha. Before immersion, immersion in water after observing the auspicious Choghadiya, performing the ritualistic Shodashopachar puja of Bappa, offering Modak, and apologizing is considered completely as per the scriptures and considered auspicious.

On this day, raw cotton or silk thread is colored with kumkum and turmeric and 14 knots are tied in it. These 14 knots are considered to be the symbol of 14 Bhuvans (Bhuh, Bhuvah, Swah, Mahah, Janah, Tapah, Satyam etc.) and the 14 forms of Lord Vishnu.
Men wear it on their right hand wrist and women on their left hand. It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, on the advice of Lord Shri Krishna, the Pandavas observed a fast on Anant Chaturdashi after losing the kingdom in gambling, due to which they regained their lost kingdom and glory.
