On the day of Santan Saptami, a protective thread (Santan Saptami thread) is specially prepared made of silver or silk thread, in which seven knots are tied. Keep this Raksha Sutra at the feet of Shiva and Parvati, show incense sticks and pray for the protection of the children. Seven sweet puas or malpuas made in pure ghee are prepared as bhog, which are placed in a banana leaf or a bronze plate and offered. After the puja, listen or recite the mythological fast story of Santan Saptami. After the Aarti is over, mothers should tie that sacred Raksha Sutra on their own right wrist or around the wrist or neck of their child. The mothers themselves break the fast by consuming the seven puas offered as bhog and the remaining material is offered to a Brahmin or a cow.
