Aadhaar PVC Card: Why is this plastic card necessary in the purse? Its 5 high-tech security features and the way to order it from home

Aadhaar card has become the most essential document in daily life for travelling, hotel check-in, opening bank accounts or availing benefits of government schemes. Most of the people cut the paper Aadhaar letter received by post, get it laminated or get it printed from an internet café and keep it in their pocket. However, its photo, barcode and important details get blurred within a few months due to getting wet in rain, getting folded in purse or continuous rubbing. Not only this, many essential security standards are missing in cards printed on plastic unauthorized in the market. To solve this problem, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided the facility to issue ‘Aadhaar PVC Card’ which is strong, waterproof and pocket-friendly like the bank’s ATM/Debit card.

Compared to the traditional paper Aadhaar card, the PVC card proves to be extremely practical in many ways:

  • Compact size like ATM card: It is exactly the size of a debit or credit card, which can be kept safely in the card-slot of a purse or wallet.

  • Waterproof and Durable: Being made of polyvinyl chloride material, it does not get spoiled when it gets wet in water, nor is there any fear of it breaking or bursting.

  • 100% official and legal recognition: Open market lamination or local PVC printing is rejected in many places due to security reasons, whereas this official card sent by UIDAI through speed post is completely valid everywhere.

UIDAI has added several security layers to this compact card to prevent counterfeiting and fraud:

  • 1. Hologram: An authentic security hologram of Government of India and UIDAI is printed on the front of the card, which glows with the angle of illumination and is almost impossible to counterfeit.

  • 2. Ghost Image: A light transparent ghost image is printed on the card in addition to the main photo. This technology completely eliminates the possibility of making fake cards by any kind of photo-morphing or changing the photo.

  • 3. Guilloche Pattern: The background of the card is a web of subtle, intricate and wavy geometric lines. It is a printing technology like currency notes, which cannot be copied exactly by ordinary scanner or photocopy machine.

  • 4. Microtext: The card’s design hides extremely fine microtext visible to the naked eye, which can only be read with a magnifying glass or a high resolution scanner.

  • 5. Secure Tamper-proof QR Code: There is a digitally signed QR code on the back of the card. By scanning it, the name, photo and demographic details of the holder are also verified offline, so that authenticity can be checked even in the absence of internet.

It is extremely simple to order a PVC card from the official portal of UIDAI. For this you do not need to visit any Aadhaar Seva Centre:
