#1 There are 5 self-proclaimed Shivlingas established in the middle of the sea: Know the mythological story related to the Mahabharata period.

According to mythological beliefs and stories, Nishkalank Mahadev Temple was not established by any ordinary man, but by the Pandavas themselves after the war of Mahabharata. After killing their own brothers (Kauravas) and relatives in the holy war of Kurukshetra, Pandavas were suffering from immense remorse and guilt. Pandavas asked Lord Krishna for a solution to get rid of the sins of killing their own people and killing their own people. Shri Krishna gave the Pandavas a black cow and a black flag and asked them to set out on a journey and instructed them to go to the place where the color of both the cow and the flag becomes completely white, that is where they will have to do penance to Mahadev. When the Pandavas reached the Koliyak bank at Bhavnagar in Gujarat after a long journey of many years, both the black cow and the flag changed to white. After this, the Pandavas performed severe penance near the seashore, due to which Lord Shiva appeared and cleansed the Pandavas of their sins. After this, the Pandavas established 5 self-proclaimed Shivlingas as symbols of the five brothers and a square platform in front of them.

#1 Unique mystery of sea waves: The temple gets completely submerged twice a day.

The biggest and scientific secret of the Nishkalank Mahadev Temple is that this temple is situated on a high platform amidst the waves of the Arabian Sea, about 1.5 kilometers from the coast. During the day, when there is high tide in the sea, the sea level suddenly starts rising very rapidly. Within no time, the entire courtyard of the temple and the five Shivlingas get submerged under water up to 10 to 15 feet. During that time only the 20 feet high main flag on top of the temple is visible above the sea water. As long as the tide is in effect, no human being can dare to reach the temple. But as soon as low tide starts in the afternoon or evening, the sea water miraculously starts retreating and the entire path from the shore to the temple becomes clear. For this reason it is said that only when the sea gives way and Mahadev gives permission, devotees can reach the temple on foot for darshan.

#1 Darshan is decided according to the time of high and low tide: Pundits and sailors warn of the right time.

The timing of darshan at Nishkalank Mahadev Temple completely depends on the natural cycle of moon phases and high and low tides of the sea. The temple trust and local pundits put up boards every day indicating the exact time of rise and fall of sea level. When the sea water recedes in the afternoon, thousands of devotees travel a distance of 1.5 kilometers barefoot through the wet sand and marsh of the sea to reach the temple. Devotees get about 3 to 4 hours to offer water to Shivling, perform puja and hoist the flag. As the time of high tide approaches again in the evening, the temple priest blows the conch shell and makes an announcement over the loudspeaker instructing all the devotees to immediately return to the shore. If a person does not return in time, he may get trapped amidst the surging waves of the ocean.
