Mumbai: A trailer carrying hydrogen cylinders met with an accident near Vasai Phata on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway last night. As soon as the trailer overturned, the cylinders fell on the road and caught fire.
Meanwhile, two cylinders exploded. Due to this incident, there was a jam on the highway for hours, due to which the driver got injured. Due to this, there was a long queue of vehicles for eight to ten kilometers. The fire brigade controlled the fire after a lot of hard work. Tourists stuck in the jam faced problems.
Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation fire officer Bhupesh Bhoir said that a trailer carrying hydrogen cylinders from Gujarat to Mumbai met with an accident between Vasai and Tungareshwar Phata. At around 2 o'clock last night, the driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle. The trailer collided with the divider and overturned, due to which the gas cylinders fell from the trailer onto the road. And a fire broke out there. This caused a massive explosion in two cylinders, which created panic among other drivers.
After getting information about this incident, police, fire brigade and rescue team reached the spot. Traffic on the road going to Mumbai and Gujarat was stopped at a safe distance, so there were no casualties. The fire brigade brought the fire under control within a few hours.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted due to the cylinders falling on the road. A long queue of vehicles was formed for eight to ten kilometres. The driver is said to be injured in this incident.
Motorists were stuck in the jam for six to seven hours. The traffic police tried to restore traffic and cranes were used to remove the trailer and cylinders. The jam also affected the internal roads connecting the city. Traffic was disrupted in Sativali, Vasai Phata, Naigaon.
