Patiala: The torch of Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan, considered the symbol of Punjabi University (PU), has finally been lit. This building is dedicated to the memory of Guru Shri Gobind Singh Ji and is named after him. With a well-equipped library with a huge collection of more than 33000 books and journals on all religions, this building symbolically expresses the ideas of the five major religions of the world. The white marble artwork at the entrance symbolizes the human heart. The shining light at the top symbolizes the eternal unity of mankind, which was damaged a month ago. The matter of not changing the torch for a long time was raised prominently by Punjabi Jagran, after which the administration took action and got it repaired and installed it in its place.
According to the information, the foundation of Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan was laid during the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh. The then President of India Dr. Its foundation stone was laid by Zakir Hussain on 27 December 1967. Therefore, this building is accepted as a symbol of Punjabi University from the very beginning and is dedicated to promoting peace and harmony. It is a five-petalled structure in the middle of a water pond representing various fragrances of divinity. The five identical wings, designed in the style of a boat floating on water, divide the five major religions in the chronological order of their historical manifestation, namely Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism. The layout of this building symbolizes the spirit of religion. Its five gates symbolize that the door of knowledge is open to all, no matter which direction one is coming from. It has five blocks including a literature block dedicated to the study of all major religions. Regarding this matter, University Executive Naresh Kumar said that the lighting on top of the building had gone bad due to some reason, which has been repaired and reinstalled.
