Bettiah, 09 September (HS). On Monday, a boat full of 25 teachers overturned after colliding with another big boat anchored on the bank at Pujan Ghat of Uttari Patjirwa Panchayat of Srinagar police station area in Bettiah police district of Bihar, due to the strong current in the Gandak river. All the boat passengers started drowning in the Gandak river.
Hearing the commotion, people from nearby areas reached the spot and with the help of bamboo and rope, all the people were safely taken out of the Gandak. 4 teachers are still seriously injured. The injured are being treated at Bettiah Hospital. The villagers told that on Monday morning around 8 o'clock, there were a total of 30 people on the boat while going to the school on the other side of the Gandak. In which there were 15 teachers and 10 female teachers and five villagers. As soon as the boat moved from the shore towards the other side of the Gandak, due to the great depth and fast flow of water, the boat went out of control and collided with a big boat parked near the shore.
All the people in the boat moved to one side of the boat to save themselves. Then due to one-sided weight the boat capsized in the Gandak. As soon as the boat capsized, there was shouting and screaming at the Gandak Ghat. Hearing the noise, local villagers reached the spot and with the help of bamboo, rope, towel etc., took out all the people safely from the lap of Gandak. Four teachers were seriously injured in this. The injured are being treated at GMC Bettiah. The injured include Abha Kumari, teacher of MSI Srinagar school, Pratima Kumari, teacher of UHS School Srinagar, Laxman Kumar Bharti and Santosh Kumar etc. The condition of other teachers is said to be normal.
