In Southeast Asia, TB infection rates have risen to deadly levels. The number of deaths due to TB in the year 2021 has increased by 8.60 percent as compared to the year 2015. Additionally, the mortality rate among people suffering from 30 to 70 percent comorbidities such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease was recorded at 21.6 percent. Saima Wajed, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), has said that there are about 11 countries in Southeast Asia, including India, where the rate of TB infection has increased significantly. Saima says many factors affect people's equitable access to diagnosis and treatment in the region. For this reason, the World Health Organization has decided to celebrate World Health Day on April 7 with the theme 'My Health, My Rights'. Saima said that the Right to Health for All is an effort to ensure that all people everywhere have access to quality health services.
