Bhopal, July 24 (HS). People interested in astronomy are going to get an opportunity to see a rare astronomical event in the sky tonight. Solar and lunar eclipses are seen four to five times every year, but today Saturn is going to be eclipsed. This event will be visible in India after 18 years.

National award winning science broadcaster Sarika Ghaaru said that on the night of 24th July at around 9:30 PM, when the moon will rise in the east and move ahead, then at 11:57 PM at midnight it will embrace Saturn, the sixth planet of the ringed solar system. The moon will come between Saturn and Earth and will become an obstacle in viewing Saturn from a limited area of the Earth. The moon will come between Saturn and Earth and create an eclipse. She said that it is being called Saturn's lunar eclipse, whereas in astronomy it is called Lunar Occultation of Saturn.

Sarika said that this event will start at 11:57 pm on Wednesday at the global level and will end at 3:57 am. In India, it will be visible at different places from 12:50 am to 3:10 am. It will not be visible in the north-western states of India including Delhi, but will be visible in southern and eastern India including Madhya Pradesh.

Sarika told that earlier this event was seen in India on 2 February 2007. In this way, it will be seen in India after almost 18 years. At this time, the moon will be about 3,64,994 kilometers away from the earth, while the distance of Saturn from the earth will be about 134 crore kilometers. Despite this difference in distance, their position in the sky will be such that when seen from a certain part of the earth, the moon will appear to be covering Saturn. She said that if you are unable to see this amazing astronomical event due to clouds, then do not be disappointed, it will be seen again in the clear sky of 14 October and that too in the whole of India.
