A policeman died after being given poisonous injection by robbers

Mumbai: A police constable of the local arms unit of Mumbai Police lost his life while bravely confronting a gang that was snatching mobile phones from a moving train while standing on the track between Sion-Matunga railway station. The constable jumped from the train and chased the drunken robber. But the gang attacked the constable and killed him by giving him poisonous injection and making him drink red colored liquid.

Different police teams have been formed to catch the accused. Thane-based police constable Vishal Pawar was admitted to the hospital for treatment. But Pawar passed away yesterday.

The police officer said that the incident took place on April 28 at around 9.30 pm. Vishal was going on duty in plain clothes and was standing near the door of the train and talking on the mobile phone. The train slowed down between Sion-Matunga station. Then the robber standing on the railway track attacked Pawar's hand and stole his mobile phone.

The robbers were running on the tracks. As the train was slow, Pawar also jumped down from the train. He chased the robber. After going some distance, Pawar was caught by other drunken accomplices of the robber. There was a scuffle between Pawar and the robbers. The accused pushed Pawar and beat him. Meanwhile, a drug smuggler injected poison in Pawar's back. The other accused caught hold of him and forced him to drink a red colored liquid in his mouth.

After this the robbers ran away. But Pawar was unconscious. He remained unconscious the whole night. Next morning, Pawar regains consciousness. Then he reached home. When his health deteriorated, his family admitted him to a hospital in Thane. Where Kopri police station officials recorded Pawar's statement. Police have registered a case against unknown accused. After this the case was transferred to Dadar Railway Police.

The official said that during treatment in the hospital, Pawar's condition deteriorated and he died. Railway Police has started a detailed investigation in this matter. Several teams have been formed to nab the accused. Police is obtaining information on records about the criminals. The postmortem report will reveal the exact manner of death of the soldier.
