On 6 June, a Muslim woman gave birth to a baby girl in the Mahalaxmi Express train coming from Kolhapur to Mumbai. Her husband has decided to name the daughter Mahalaxmi after the train.
31-year-old Fatima Khan, a resident of Mira Road, was travelling from Kolhapur to Mumbai with her husband Tayyab. Meanwhile, after the train passed Lonavala station, pregnant Fatima started experiencing labour pains.
Tayyab told that the delivery date of Fatima, his three sons, was 20th June. So they decided to return home to Mumbai from Kolhapur and were travelling on 6th June. At that time, the train was stopped at Lonavala station for two hours due to engine failure. After the train started again at 11 pm, his wife went to the bathroom due to pain. When Fatima did not return even after a long time, Tayyab went to see her. Either Tayyab or his wife had given birth to a child. The female tourists present nearby helped them.
Some people travelling with Tayyab and Fatima visited the Mahalakshmi Mata Mandir in Kolhapur. On seeing the baby girl, they said that they had seen the Goddess in person after seeing the baby girl being born in this manner. Hearing this, Tayyab decided to name his daughter Mahalakshmi.
The GRP constable present in the train advised Tayyab to report the situation to the GRP helpline. The family got off when the train reached Karjat station. API Mukesh Dhange of Karjat GRP said that they have informed the sub-district hospital of Karjat. A nurse and hospital staff reached the station to serve the woman. After three days of treatment at the hospital, the mother and child were discharged. Tayyab thanked Karjat GRP for their medical help.
