A London court has sentenced a woman to 80 months in prison for money laundering in a multi-billion dollar fraud case.

London: A London court on Friday sentenced a woman to 80 months in prison for money laundering after she was convicted of converting bitcoin into cash and property to hide the proceeds of a £5 billion ($6.3 billion) fraud.

Prosecutors said Wen Jian helped hide money allegedly stolen from 130,000 Chinese investors in fraudulent schemes between 2014 and 2017. She is not accused of participating in the fraud. The plot was hatched by another woman.

British police seized wallets containing more than 61,000 bitcoins. The 61,000 bitcoins seized in 2021 were worth £1.4 billion. The value is now more than three billion pounds. 42-year-old Wayne said he was not aware of any crimes involving bitcoin. He was found guilty by juniors at Southwark Crown Court in March.
