The African country Uganda is currently battling a very dangerous and deadly outbreak of Ebola Virus. Amidst this global health crisis, India has once again extended a strong helping hand towards Uganda, implementing its policy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. A special cargo plane of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has reached Uganda carrying a large quantity of emergency medical aid and life-saving medicines. This step taken promptly by the Government of India is being highly appreciated at the international level. This decision of India in this time of crisis shows that whenever there is a crisis on humanity anywhere in the world, New Delhi stands at the forefront to help.
Brave Air Force aircraft completed ‘Mission Uganda’
Given the increasing cases of Ebola in Uganda, the health system there was under immense pressure and they urgently needed specialized medical equipment. India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Defense Ministry, in mutual coordination, deployed the Indian Air Force fleet on this mission without wasting any time. Special IAF aircraft safely airlifted tonnes of medical supplies including personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, essential medicines, thermal scanners and critical care equipment directly to the airbase near Uganda’s capital Kampala. This successful and prompt operation by the Indian Air Force has given a new boost to the frontline health workers of Uganda.
This step of India emerged as the voice of ‘Global South’
This is not the first time that India has helped an African country in crisis like this. Diplomatic experts believe that after running the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ campaign during the Corona epidemic, India has once again proved its commitment towards the ‘Global South’ by helping Uganda in the Ebola crisis. While Western countries sometimes respond slowly to these crises, India’s quick action takes the bilateral and historic relations between the two countries to a new height. The Government of Uganda has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India and the people of India for this humanitarian assistance.
Growing threat of Ebola virus and India’s vigilance
This new strain of Ebola spread in Uganda is considered to be extremely infectious and deadly, due to which the number of deaths there is continuously increasing. India is not only helping Uganda fight this virus on its soil, but is also maintaining full vigilance within the country. Strict screening of passengers coming from affected countries is being done at international airports to prevent its spread in India. Medical experts say that with this help sent by India, Uganda will get great success in controlling this epidemic at the local level, which is a very important step in terms of overall global health security.
