This company named CAMC Engineering has already violated the rules of Asian Development Bank. The World Bank has banned it, but the Government of Maldives has given it the work of building the airport. At the same time, the Moijju government has also allowed the use of Chinese currency instead of US dollars in imports and exports.
When Moizzu visited China recently, an agreement was signed between the aforementioned Chinese company and the Maldivian government to build an airport in Laamu Atoll. According to this agreement, the existing Kadhu airport will be converted into an international airport. A Chinese company will do all this work.
The Maldivian opposition has also raised questions against handing over the construction work to an already discredited company. However, the Moijju government is now in a mood to heed the warning of the opposition.
Also, the Minister of Economic Affairs of Maldives has announced the use of Chinese currency Yuan in trade with China. According to him, this will diversify the use of foreign currency by Maldives.
