A female professor from Pune asked for a bribe of Rs 25,000 to pass her PhD thesis

Mumbai: Even the education department has not been spared from the brunt of corruption. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested a Pune-based woman professor red-handed while taking bribe to get her thesis approved at PSD. This female professor asked for a bribe of twenty-five thousand rupees to approve the thesis of a teacher and after taking 20 thousand rupees, she was caught by ACB, there is a stir.

In this regard, according to ACB sources, accused Dr. Retired Shakuntala Mane (59) is currently a professor in the Department of Economics at Baburaoji Gholep College, Sanghvi, near Pune. Dr. Manen was appointed as the advisor to the 40-year-old PhD scholar at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in 2022. This PhD scholar himself is also a teacher.

In this regard, ACB investigating officer DSP Pachorkar said that the PhD scholar had submitted his thesis in October 2023. This scholar complained to ACB that Dr. Mane reportedly paid Rs to resubmit his thesis with amendments. A demand of Rs 25 thousand was made. The ACB verified the complaint on March 26 and laid a trap at the HOD-Economics Department office in Baburaoji Gholap College on Saturday. According to ACB sources, Dr. Mane was caught by the ACB while taking the first installment of bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. In this regard, Dr. as per the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act at Sangvi Police Station. FIR has been registered against Mane.
