Mumbai: Diamond merchant Sanjay Shah, who lived near the Mahalakshmi temple, committed suicide by jumping into the sea near the Gateway of India in Colaba, South Mumbai. It is said that he was in depression for the last two years due to losses in business. The businessman did not return after leaving home on the pretext of a morning walk. His body was recovered from the water and sent to the hospital for post-mortem. The Colaba police have registered an accidental death report in this case and are investigating further.
Senior Police Inspector Pramod Bhowate of Colaba Police Station said that no suicide note has been found near the deceased businessman who lived on Bhulabhai Desai Road near Mahalaxmi Temple. But initial investigation has revealed that he committed suicide due to financial crisis.
Diamond trader Sanjay Shah (65), whose office was in the Bandra Kurla Complex, stepped out yesterday telling his family he was going for a morning walk and then fell into the sea near the Gateway of India. The police was informed about the incident and police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot.
It was difficult to take him out due to the strong waves of the sea. After a lot of effort with the help of ropes, the businessman was taken out and taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
The businessman was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. It is said that the family members of the deceased have told the police that he was depressed for two-three years due to heavy losses in business.
He went to commit suicide on Bandra-Worli Sea Link, but the driver did not stop the taxi
People have still not forgotten the incident of Ghatkopar businessman Bhavesh Seth committing suicide due to financial crisis on Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Diamond businessman Sanjay Shah also came here to commit suicide. But he could not commit suicide from the sea link because the driver did not stop the taxi. Ultimately he went to the Gateway of India and ended his life in the sea.
Diamond merchant Sanjay Shah left home on the pretext of going for a morning walk and took a taxi to Badra-Worli Sea Link. He asked the driver to stop the taxi on the pretext of throwing puja flowers.
The driver did not stop the taxi saying that the traffic department would be lazy to impose a heavy fine on him. In such a situation, he cannot commit suicide from the sea link.
Pramod Bhowate, senior police inspector of Colaba police station, said that the businessman then asked the driver to take a taxi to Colaba, but he got off the taxi at Colaba and after walking some distance, jumped into the sea.
