Mpox: The first case of the ampox strain was reported in India, following which the World Health Organisation declared it a public health emergency last month. Official sources told news agency PTI on Monday that a patient from Kerala showed symptoms of the virus last week.
The Clade 1B strain was found in a 38-year-old man from Malappuram district who had recently returned from the United Arab Emirates, officials told the agency. The patient's condition is stable, sources said. “This is the first case of the current strain, which prompted the World Health Organisation to declare ampox a public health emergency for the second time last month,” they said.
Cases of 2 strains found in Hisar
The first case of MPox in the national capital was that of a 26-year-old resident of Hisar in Haryana, who tested positive for the West African Clade 2 strain earlier this month. So far, 30 cases have been reported in India since the World Health Organisation declared MPox a health emergency of international concern in 2022.
