A dangerous fast-moving asteroid is likely to hit the Earth

According to the US space agency NASA, a dangerous asteroid is rapidly moving towards the Earth and there is a possibility of it colliding with the Earth. No preparations can be made to stop it at present.

According to a NASA study in April, there is a 72 percent chance of this asteroid hitting the Earth. NASA summarized the study conducted at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland. Apart from NASA, other US institutions were also involved in this study.

NASA is building NEO Surveyor to assess asteroids

Earth still has enough time to assess such a potentially dangerous asteroid and study its response. NASA is preparing the NEO (Near Earth Object Surveyor) for this. The NEO Surveyor is a type of infrared space telescope. It is designed to enhance human ability to detect dangerous asteroids. NASA's NEO Surveyor will be launched in June 2028.

Man-made techniques to prevent such natural disasters

Lyndall Johnson, planetary defense officer emeritus at NASA Headquarters, told Johnson that a dangerous asteroid is rapidly heading toward Earth. Although it is a type of natural disaster, humans have had the capability and technology to predict and prevent it for many years. According to preliminary calculations, it has a 72 percent chance of hitting Earth in 14 years. To be precise, the asteroid has a 72 percent chance of hitting Earth by July 12, 2038.
