Mumbai: The state traffic police has ordered strict action against two-wheeler riders as well as their pillion riders for not wearing helmets. Importantly, now the difference between rule violation by the driver and the pillion will also be displayed in the e-challan machines.

Maharashtra Traffic Police has sent a circular to all traffic police branches in cities and rural areas of the state stating that the implementation of the helmet rule is very low. The main reason for not wearing a helmet in road accidents is that both the driver and the pillion rider are at risk. Therefore it has been said that it is mandatory for both of them to wear helmets. Earlier, in the e-challan machines, the violation would be recorded if the person riding a two-wheeler was not wearing a helmet and the message of traveling without a helmet would be displayed, but from now on, the difference will also be recorded in the machine. If the person sitting in front and behind and apart from the driver, the passenger sitting behind is also not wearing a helmet, then this will be noted separately in the machine.
