A businessman from West Bengal had an abandoned truck full of beedis, fined Rs 5 lakh

Moradabad, March 22 (HS). The team of State Tax Department Moradabad had chased it till the forest of Amroha district 16 days ago and caught an abandoned truck full of beedis. Investigation revealed that the goods in the truck belonged to a businessman from West Bengal. The businessman had to pay a fine of Rs 5.5 lakh in this case on Friday.

A truck full of beedis from Delhi was going towards Rampur Road on March 5. On receiving the information, the team of State Tax Joint Commissioner Srihari Mishra chased the truck. Investigation revealed that the truck was loaded with Howrah beedi. The goods belonged to a businessman from Ghorshala in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The businessman told that he had sent a large quantity of goods to Delhi. A truckload of goods was sent from Delhi to Rampur.

State Additional Commissioner Grade-1 RA Seth said that in this case the West Bengal businessman had to pay a fine of Rs 5.5 lakh for GST evasion.
