Relations between North Korea and South Korea are heating up once again. Angered by the joint military exercises of South Korea, Japan and the US, North Korea fired a ballistic missile at South Korea on Monday. The South Korean military said that North Korea had launched a short-range ballistic missile off its east coast on Monday.
Angry North Korea took this step after South Korea's joint exercises with Japan and the US Army. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile was fired from North Korea's southeastern city of Jangyong at 5:05 am. It was also said that another unidentified ballistic missile was detected 10 minutes after this missile launch, after which it was speculated that North Korea may have launched two missiles.
Why did North Korea launch the missile?
North Korea was angry with the military exercises of the US and Japan along with South Korea. Due to which North Korea has also called this exercise of these three countries as the NATO of Asia. Just two days after the exercise, angry North Korea fired a missile at South Korea. In recent years, the three countries (South Korea, US, Japan) have been promoting their joint security partnership to better deal with the growing nuclear threats of North Korea and the growing aggression of China in the region.
What is the objective of the exercise of the three countries?
The three countries named this drill as “Freedom Edge” drill. Its aim is to enhance joint ballistic-missile defense, anti-submarine warfare, secure surveillance and air and naval exercises. The exercise involved US fighter jets and helicopters.
North Korea's Foreign Ministry has condemned
North Korea's Foreign Ministry issued a lengthy statement on Sunday strongly condemning the “Freedom Edge” drill and calling it the NATO of Asia. The statement said that the exercise has openly deteriorated the security environment on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea also said that the US intention behind this exercise was to encircle China and put pressure on Russia.
The statement said that due to the damage caused to North Korean security due to the exercise, North Korea will safeguard the state's sovereignty, security and interests through aggressive and forceful counter-attacks. Two days after the exercise, North Korea fired a missile at South Korea.
