A 200-bed geriatric center will be built in IMS-BHU, a boon for elderly patients

Varanasi, 19 February (HS). A 200-bed geriatric center will be built in the Institute of Medical Sciences, Kashi Hindu University (BHU) for the convenience of elderly patients. The construction of National Center of Aging is no less than a boon for elderly patients. The proposal of a 200-bed National Center of Aging of the Department of Geriatrics under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been approved.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has designated Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU as Regional Geriatric Center in the year 2014 under the National Program for Healthcare of Elderly – Rashtriya Varishtha Jan Swastha Yojana. Under this scheme, the Department of Geriatrics was created in the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU in 2018. And MD Geriatrics course was also started. The Department of Geriatrics, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU is the first department of Uttar Pradesh where MD Geriatrics is taught. The National Center on Aging will be a multi-storey building as per the guidelines of the National Program. In this, the postgraduate MD Geriatrics seats will be increased from 3 to 15 along with the increase in the seats of Senior Physicians and Senior Residents. The National Center on Aging in the University will not only Uttar Pradesh, in fact, will be able to meet the geriatric upliftment and needs of the entire Eastern India.

The OPD complex at the National Center of Aging will have 14 rooms for doctors. It will also have registration, pharmacy, radio diagnosis, physiotherapy, yoga, meditation and research laboratory. The total cost of its construction will be Rs 147.39 crore. 06 storey building from ground floor in 2045 sq.m. 3 wards of 40 beds and 6 HDU, 138 beds (46×3) Dialysis 6 beds, ICU 20 beds, Day Care 6 beds, Operation Theater (Pre and Post OP) 10 beds, The private wards will have 20 rooms.

Prime Minister Modi's resolve to develop medical services for the elderly

It is the determination of Varanasi MP and Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi to develop medical services for the elderly. Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has approved the National Center of Aging in BHU. With the formation of Regional Geriatric Center in BHU, the patients admitted here will get connectivity with the super specialty block in the BHU campus, thereby making it easier for the elderly patients to get consultation in various super specialty departments like Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Urology, Neurology, Surgery. Will happen. Sir Sunderlal Hospital of BHU provides healthcare to a large population of about 20 crores comprising eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as well as Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, northern part of Chhattisgarh and southern part of Nepal, which includes about 2 crore elderly people. .
