Dehradun, 04 September (HS). Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that this historic Hiljatra of Sorghati is a symbol of our faith, belief and rich traditions. This yatra is not only a religious or traditional event but is an integral part of our social, cultural and economic life. This festival, which has been celebrated for more than five hundred years, has given a unique identity to Pithoragarh.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said these things while addressing the Hiljatra Festival organized in Pithoragarh virtually from the Chief Minister's residence. The Chief Minister said that due to the scheduled administrative engagements, he could not personally attend this event, but he is also satisfied that by connecting with all of you virtually through technology, he is able to witness this wonderful festival.
While wishing everyone on the occasion of Hiljatra festival, the Chief Minister wished that just like the stream of Hiljatra flows in every house with the traditional worship of Maa Gauri and Lord Maheshwar from the Satu-Aathu festival, similarly the stream of happiness, prosperity and peace should continue to flow in everyone's life.
The Chief Minister said that Hiljatra not only reminds us of the great traditions, ideals and bravery of our ancestors but also reflects the characteristics of our rural life related to agriculture and animal husbandry. This tradition of Hiljatra is a unique medium to connect us with our soil, fields, cultural values, which is being passed on from generation to generation.
He said that this festival, which has been celebrated for more than 500 years, has given a unique identity to Pithoragarh and the arrival of Lakhia Bhoot, the Gan of Lord Shiva, has always blessed us with happiness, prosperity and well-being. Through this festival, we remain connected to our roots.
The Chief Minister said that today under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, remarkable work is being done towards the preservation and promotion of our religious and cultural heritage. The Prime Minister himself has worked to make the Adi Kailash Yatra famous all over the world by visiting the Pithoragarh region. For this, financial assistance is also being provided every year to keep the original form of traditional and mythological fairs intact.
He said that he urged the younger generation to respect their culture and traditions and contribute in taking them forward.
Announcement of five lakhs for organizing Hiljatra festival:
On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for organizing the Hiljatra festival, sanctioning Rs. 98 lakh for the beautification of Mostamanu temple, approving funds for the beautification of Chautol fair complex, Shri Golju temple and beautification of Hiljatra fair site in Kumaud. The Chief Minister directed the District Magistrate, Pithoragarh to test the “structural safety” of the parking to be constructed near GGIC at his own level as soon as possible.
MLA DDhat Bishan Singh Chuphal, MLA Pithoragarh Mayukh Singh Mehar, District Panchayat Chairman Deepika Bora, Vice President of State Level Minor Irrigation Advisory Committee Ganesh Bhandari, former MLA Chandra Pant, BJP District President Pithoragarh Girish Joshi, outgoing Chairman Municipal Council Pithoragarh Rajendra Singh Rawat, Shiv Singh Bisht along with a large number of area residents were present in this festival.
