Ahmedabad: The sharp volatility in the stock market in August did not affect the buying by retail investors. Moreover, retail investors took advantage of the decline and poured a lot of money into the market. Indian retail investors have set a record of investing more than foreign investors, banks and insurance companies. In July, retail investors invested Rs. 10,000 crore as against the purchase of Rs 2380 crore in August. However, the net purchase of RIIs in June was Rs. 11,855 crore.

Apart from this, foreign investors invested about Rs 50 crore in August. An investment of 9200 crore was made. Banks invested Rs. Insurance companies invested Rs. 1083 crore. 3973 crore shares were bought. According to analysts, the trend of direct and indirect investment by retail investors is likely to continue until there is a problem in the domestic economy or there is a major change in the global situation.

Dalal Street witnessed extreme volatility in August. Sensex rose 0.8 per cent and Nifty 1.1 per cent, BSE Midcap 0.9 per cent and Smallcap index 1.23 per cent. Retail investors invest more than foreign investors, banks and insurance companies, which shows that the general public is very interested in investing in stocks.

On the other hand, foreign investors are cautious in the Indian market. Between August 1 and August 19, they also spent Rs. 19,000 crore worth of shares were sold and the main reason for this could be global geopolitical tensions, inflation and economic uncertainty. However, foreign investors bought shares worth about Rs. 28,000 crore.
