Gandhinagar: Junior and intern doctors' strike ends, agitating doctors promise to restore service after meeting CM | News India

Gandhinagar: The strike of the state's interns and junior doctors, who were protesting for the last two days demanding an increase in stipend, has finally ended. Today, a meeting of the agitating doctors was held with the Chief Minister in Gandhinagar. After which the doctors have decided to withdraw the strike in the interest of the patients.

Actually, the Health Department of the Government of Gujarat has announced a 20 percent increase in the stipend of resident and intern doctors of 6 government and 13 GMERS-run medical colleges. However, for some time now, doctors have been demanding a 40 percent increase in the stipend.

In such a situation, All Gujarat Junior Doctors Association adopted the path of agitation to get their demands accepted. As a result, the doctors turned away from their duties and went on strike from last Monday. Patients had to face a lot of trouble due to more than 1500 doctors going on strike. On the other hand, after the government notification, the Dean of B.J. Medical College has also given an ultimatum to the striking teachers to return to work by 9 am today. However, the junior doctors remained firm on the strike.

However, late tonight, the Chief Minister held a meeting with the agitating doctors. In which, keeping in mind the positive attitude of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the wider public health care interest of Sushrusha for the treatment of the needy citizens of the state, the doctors assured to end the agitation and withdraw the strike and restore their services.
