Chandigarh: The case of building illegal colonies in Punjab with the connivance of officials of various departments has reached the Punjab-Haryana High Court. On the petition of Legal Aid Welfare Association of Amritsar, the High Court has ordered the Punjab Government to file a status report on the matter.
The association, while filing a PIL, told the High Court through lawyer Vipul Aggarwal that illegal colonies are being constructed on a large scale in Punjab. Builders get the construction done in connivance with officials of various departments and then sell it. When these colonies are cut down, the authorities turn a blind eye and those who buy them later have to face real problems.
Colonies were built without taking NOC
These colonies, built without taking NOC from the concerned departments, are not getting basic facilities due to lack of necessary approvals. The petitioner association informed the Punjab government about this matter several times but to no avail.
Colonies are being cut in large numbers
The petitioner told the High Court that Punjab is full of such illegal colonies and even now a large number of such colonies are being demolished. The petitioner has appealed to the High Court to identify such colonies across the state and take action against them. The High Court has now ordered the Punjab Government to file a status report on the petition.
