Anti-rape bill introduced in West Bengal Assembly, to be implemented in 36 days | News India

The Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal introduced the anti-rape bill in the assembly on Tuesday. The draft bill proposes a provision for death penalty for such criminals if the rape victim dies or becomes unconscious.

Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal introduced anti-rape bill in the assembly on Tuesday. The draft bill proposes death penalty for such criminals if the rape victim dies or loses consciousness. Opposition BJP will also support this bill.

What is inside this bill?

  • Death penalty in cases of rape and murder
  • Under this bill, there will be a provision for death penalty within 36 days of filing of the charge sheet
  • Apart from rape, acid attack is an equally serious offence for which the Bill provides for life imprisonment.
  • A special force- Aparajita Task Force will be formed in every district
  • Aparajita Task Force will deal with cases of rape, acid attack or extortion
  • Another very important thing has been added to this bill that strict action will be taken against the person who reveals the identity of the victim.

In addition, the draft proposes that those convicted of rape and gang rape be given life imprisonment. The proposed law called the 'Aparajita Mahila and Bal Bill (West Bengal Criminal Law and Amendment) Bill 2024' aims to strengthen the protection of women and children by including new provisions related to rape and sexual crimes.
