Chhatarpur, March 4 (HS). BSP leader and former sarpanch of Ishanagar Gram Panchayat Mahendra Kumar Gupta, who had come to attend a wedding ceremony in the Civil Line police station area of the city, was murdered. Two miscreants sitting in ambush shot him in the head due to which he died on the spot. After committing the incident the miscreants immediately fled from the spot. As soon as information about the incident was received, the entire police department reached the spot. The search for the accused has been started after taking possession of the body. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm on Monday night. Old enmity is said to be the reason behind the murder.
Mahendra Gupta, a resident of Ishanagar in the district, had come to Gajraj Palace on Sagar Road in Chhatarpur on Monday night to attend a wedding ceremony of an acquaintance. Gupta got down from his vehicle and was crossing the road, at the same time two unknown miscreants who were already ambushed started firing at him. One bullet hit him directly in the upper part of his head, which mutilated his head and he died on the spot. Due to the sudden firing, an atmosphere of chaos was created at the incident site and a stampede broke out. This gave the miscreants a chance to escape. Due to the stampede no one could see the miscreants.
As soon as information about the incident was received, Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi, ASP Vikram Singh, CSP Aman Mishra and Civil Line police station in-charge Kamlesh Sahu reached the spot with heavy police force. The body was picked up from the spot and brought to the district hospital. Also, the Superintendent of Police gave necessary instructions to his department and sent them to catch the criminals.
Chhatarpur SP Amit Sanghi said that BSP leader Mahendra Gupta was shot dead near Gajraj Palace on Sagar Road. A case of murder has been registered and efforts have been started to catch the culprits. Probably the accused will be caught soon.
It is noteworthy that BSP leader Mahendra Gupta, resident of Ishanagar in the district, had contested elections twice from Bijawar assembly constituency. Gupta had also been Sarpanch in Ishanagar Gram Panchayat.
